Praxis Summer Camp 2024

The annual Praxis Summer Camp took place from July 29 to August 16, 2024. It was the eighth time that this successful teaching format for the transfer of practical experience started. It was organized by the Faculty of Economics at the University of Bremen. IGC students also participated.

In an intensive three-week project phase, interdisciplinary and partly international teams of up to five students worked on real tasks from 14 participating companies and institutions from the Bremen region, including Mondelez, Anheuser-Busch InBev and Tedda Arts. Students from Bremen, including from IGC, as well as students from international partner universities were involved.

This year, the Praxis Summer Camp started on the premises of IGC. During the kick-off event, the teams presented their projects and were advised by mentors from the respective companies. At the final event on August 16 at the Digital Hub Industry, the students presented the results of their work.

"My summer camp experience was truly enriching. As part of a four-person team with different backgrounds, we collaborated with Moin Topas, a well-known scientific-based company. Our mission was to identify emerging market trends in renewable and sustainable energy that could shape the company's future investments.

Over the three-week program, we immersed ourselves in the company's operations, conducting in-depth research and analysis. Our dedication culminated in a comprehensive presentation on August 16, outlining promising trends tailored to Moin Topas's strategic goals.

I'm incredibly proud of our team's accomplishments. This experience not only honed my problem-solving and teamwork skills but also exposed me to the dynamic world of renewable energy (which was my bachelor studies theme). Working alongside a forward-thinking company like Moin Topas, which bridges academia and industry, was invaluable.

I extend my sincere gratitude to Professor Martin Holi, Maren Hartstock, and everyone who made this unforgettable summer camp possible. It's an experience I'll cherish for years to come."

"Having worked with ABInBev (Anheuser-Busch InBev, editor’s note) and other students during Praxis Summer Camp was such a wonderful experience, something that exceeded my expectation. At first, I was hesitating to participate. But due to the fact that this opportunity offered so much more than what a class room lecture can, I decided to enroll myself. And I was not disappointed.

Tim, a representative of ABInBev was so eager to collaborate with us. He was guiding us, offering support and advice all along. Our team mates were also unique and talented in their own ways. With the help of Tim and our team mates, we managed to visit and interview almost 50 kiosks altogether in Bremen, discovering and overcoming many difficulties and challenges and completed the project with flying colors.

I have learned the supply chain of ABInBev products as well as challenges that kiosks are currently facing. Additionally, we got a glimpse of how to conduct a primary survey and how challenging it is when considering a language barrier. At the end, the three-week summer camp was worth sacrificing a summer holiday for."

"My experience at Praxis Summer Camp was amazing. Not only did I gain a lot of experience and knowledge, but I also made a lot of good friends and connections with a lot of wonderful people.

I had a very good team and our manager was a very nice, helpful and knowledgeable man. I also learned about Bullet Journal, management tools and presentation that will help me in my whole life.

Meeting Maren and Martin was also a pleasure and they were supportive and helpful, although I felt a lot of pressure because I was writing my master thesis meanwhile, but I had a lot of fun and joyful moments."
